Rising From The Ashes

Rising from the Ashes:

A Rookie Cop's Second Chance at Life

Can one moment really change your life? It can if that moment is miraculously surviving a plane crash.

On the way to his godson’s christening in his home country of Poland, Krzysztof suddenly found himself in a life-or-death situation that caused him to re-evaluate his entire existence. When his plane made an emergency landing, it wasn’t just that his life flashed before his eyes—it was that he found life unsatisfactory. In what he thought were his last moments on earth, Krzysztof found himself full of questions. Have I really accomplished what I wanted in my life? Am I proud of how I’ve lived and what I’ve done? When his life did not, in fact, end, it felt like a second chance to get things right. Suddenly, time seemed precious, and he was determined not to waste any more of it.

This is the story of that second chance. Having survived that harrowing experience, Krzysztof left the world of business behind in search of a profession where he could make a bigger impact on the world around him. He believed that if he could save only one life, he would have earned that second chance. This led him to the path of law enforcement, where he joined the police force in Philadelphia, starting out as a beat cop and then working his way to sergeant. Every day on the force brought new challenges and heart-pounding stories. The job asked him to run toward danger, toward explosions, fires, and the sound of gunshots.

The book includes moments of triumph and valuable learning experiences, ranging from making discretionary arrests to the simple act of ensuring the brake is on before you leave a squad car. At the center of it all are the people Krzysztof has encountered—yes, the ones who had broken the law, but also the ones that needed help. As the Krzysztof recounts the ways he’s tried to make the world a better place, one person at a time, and everything he’s learned along the way, you might find yourself inspired to reconstruct your own life and make it the way you always wished it could be.
